Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a two part play set nineteen years after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. After years of peace darkness is threatening to rise again. The role that anger, resentment and loneliness can have in fuelling hatred is definitely something the readers can relate to in the world today.

The Cursed Child incorporates much loved moments from J.K. Rowlings original Harry Potter series, such as The Triwizard Tournament, the use of Polyjuice Potion and visits to both The Ministry of Magic and Godric’s Hollow. With many twists and turns this book is non stop suspense. There is also the added bonus of new insights into characters like Harry, Dumbledore and Lord Voldemort.

With the story taking place during Harry’s son Albus’s time at Hogwarts there are many new characters mixed in with old favourites. The charming bond between Albus Severus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy is beautifully explored. With both boys dealing with daddy issues and finding themselves outcasts as Hogwarts a wonderful friendship is forged.

The similarities between teenage Harry and Albus are strikingly well written and become more pronounced as the story unfolds.

With time travel playing a major role in the story it is not surprising to see many much loved characters making appearances.

With all the endearment of the original Harry Potter stories Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a stay up all night to read it book.
